THE PROGRAM:
The CANADIAN SECURITY ACADEMY is proud of our accomplishments's,
and of the product we provide to the security industry in Ontario.
Our standard training program provides the students with all the
tools necessary to give the client peace of mind and the understanding
that the premises is being protected by someone with the knowledge
necessary to ensure there is minimum losses.
Our Standard Security - training program
includes the following modules;
Professionalism - Security guards
must present themselves in a professional manner at all times .
This attitude is taught and enforced within the Academy.
Conduct & Attitude - Security guards are unable to perform
their duties properly without a 'Right' attitude.
Legal Responsibilities including:
a. Private Investigator & Security Guard Act. - Security guards
must be familiar with their authority to perform their duties.
b. Criminal Code
c. Powers of Arrest - security guards
cannot arrest if they don't know how.
d. Provincial Statues, including;
- Trespass to Property Act - Much of their work will involve
this act.
- Occupier's Liability Act - Knowledge of this legislation
will save a client much in lawsuits and protection
- Tenant Protection Act - Every security guard in a residential
situation must understand what is required from both tenant
and landlord.
- Highway Traffic Act - Did you know that the H.T.A. applies
to private parking areas in the event of insurance claims or
lawsuits?
e. Youth Criminal Justice act -
This new legalization is a must know for anyone who deals with
youth from a legal standpoint.
f. Criminal & Civil Implications -
Knowledge of these two could save a client and the company
millions in lawsuits.
Duties and Responsibilities, including:
Security of People – Probably
the most important of the three security responsibilities
Crowd Control – Control the crowd before
the riot starts
Lost & Found People – Sensitivities
in this area are paramount for good public relations and effective
results.
Lost & Found Items – What, if anything
can you keep or more importantly who can keep what, and do you
give it to, just as a start.
Strikes & Lockouts – This information
includes how to know what is coming and when even before the employees
do.
Access Control – Isn’t it a primary
job, to control access to the client’s premises, how and
with what methods.
Alarm Response – Security guards must
be very aware of how & why alarms perform, and know how to
address an alarm when it does occur.
Patrol Procedures– Knowing where to go,
and what to do when you get there is another priority for security
guards.
Security Of Information – People, Property
and now Information. These three are the most important security
responsibilities of security guards. They must know what to secure
and how to secure it.
Standing Orders – Standing Orders are the
basic rules and regulations that the security guard will follow.
Knowing what they are, who and how to change them will ensure that
the site runs smoothly.
Court Procedures for Security Officers – Every
security guard should expect to attend court as part of their
duties. Understanding what is expected of them will facilitate
success for both the company and the client
Fire Safety & Prevention – This area
is the most important and each security guard must demonstrate
proficiency in this area to successfully graduate and be certified.
General Safety & Accident Prevention – This
part of the program provides a working understanding of the principals
of safety and accident prevention. The main theme for the security
professional is that an accident is a caused occurrence – Don’t
be the cause
Bomb Threat and Response Procedures – In today’s
reality, it is not necessary to justify the need for this program.
General & Emergency search procedures – Seek
and you shall find. This program teaches what to look for and
how to find it.
Use of Force for Security Guards – Everyone is responsible
for the force they use. Security guards put the client
and company in jeopardy if they use inappropriate or excessive
force.
Basic First Aid for Security Guards – We
can never stress enough the importance of first aid training,
for EVERY security officer.
Traffic Control for Security Guards – With
the Highway Traffic Act effective on private property in certain
circumstances, security guards must be aware of how to apply
and enforce the rules.
Security and WSIB – Employees and visitors
have “accidents” periodically, and if the security
guard understands how to firstly prevent and if necessary
investigate these incidents, their value to the client will
be vastly increased.
Security & the Charter of Rights – In
today’s reality, personal rights and freedoms are very
much in view. Knowledge of this act is imperative to be an
effective security guard. Security & the Police – Security guards
will work with, and must nurture such relations with the police.
They must be knowledgeable in the various ways their assistance will
be expected.
